Hi, I’m Clare, the creator of Historic Footsteps.
I’m a professional genealogist by training, but today my work focuses on history, place, and how landscapes shape the lives of ordinary people. I use my background to read buildings, maps, communities, and historical records like a local historian would, then turn that into stories you can experience for yourself.
This blog is my travelog. It’s where I document the places I explore, what makes them historically interesting, how people lived and travelled, and what you’ll notice when you visit today. My aim is to make history feel grounded, human, and connected to everyday life, not abstract or academic.
I’m currently building a long-term exploration of Northamptonshire, creating a growing catalogue of its towns, villages, churches, estates, industrial sites, and landscapes. This work feeds into a book project, currently working under the title A Genealogist’s Guide to Northamptonshire’s Heritage & History.
Alongside the blog, I publish long-form video content on YouTube through Historic Footsteps, sharing on-location exploration and historical context. Other platforms are used for short-form updates and discovery, with YouTube as the primary home for the project.
